Compartmentalized . . .
Remember how, in cartoons, the characters would begin running so fast that they would just be running in mid-air in the same place? Do you ever feel like that? I do, alot of the time.
Today, for example . . .
I considered scanning in today's page from my Franklin Planner to post here but, with all the swiggles, and additions, lines, arrows, adds-ons, etc., it would have given you a headache just looking at it. It's certainly giving me one just thinking about it. Here's just a sampling of what my calendar looks like for today:
Call J.S-H. in St.Louis, MO for GML's new # in Lexington, KY and call GML to make tentative spring/summer plans for getting together this year;
Prepare, post and send reminder mail postcards (approx. 300) and fleet statements for business accounts;
Schedule all upcoming bills - both personal and business - on BillPay accounts;
Drop off dry cleaning;
Work on/finish outline for my segment of the Annual Officers' Planning Meeting coming up on Saturday - finalize all topics for discussion;
Confirm all deadlines on January/February articles and reviews, and set intermediate goals/deadlines;
Call local jewelers to locate a Jeweler that will attach charms to a charm-bracelet 'while-you-wait' to have two new charms attached to a bracelet;
Locate a new GP for s.o. and schedule an appointment for a check-up (around his schedule in approx. 2-3 weeks), call his massuese and schedule an hour appointment for this Thursday (if she is available), and locate a new dentist for me and schedule an appointment for a check-up and cleaning;
Return calls from messages left on voice mail (six on home voice mail, four on cell voice mail, and three on studio voice mail);
Carve out an uninterrupted block of quiet time to listen to a CD of original music sent to me (almost a week and a half ago now) by a new friend Chris that I'm just dying to dive into and experience!
And, this is barely the tip-of-the-iceberg when it comes to my planner, or my day, or my week, or my life . . . The rest of the page (both pages) are covered and I have another additional page inserted in case I need to make notes during the day (which, I'm sure, I will).
I remember a few years ago when we were still living in D.C., my Planner was stolen from my car just a few days after New Year's. I had just transferred all of my information over to the new calendar with all of my important dates for the entire year planned out and noted, all of my scheduled meetings for the first three months of the new year were marked, there were photographs and diskettes and all sorts of irreplaceable items in that Planner -- it contained my whole life -- and, in an instant -- it was gone! I felt so violated, so vulnerable, so helpless . . .
To be honest, I never really recovered from that robbery. I mean, there were other things stolen from my car that day -- a case of CDs and a few other things, and I had to get the windows repaired, but . . . the other things didn't really matter as much as losing that Planner did. I even offered a reward for the return - no questioned asked - which ran in the Washington Post for a week. No takers . . .
It's amazing how you can condense your life into something as compact as a leather binder. Lose it, and you feel as if you've lost control of it all . . .
